2016 Austrian Grand Prix

The Overview II

It was revealed later the Rosberg’s brake-by-wire was in near failure mode, and he had no real chance of aggressively defending his position as Hamilton had about 3/4 of a car length advantage going into the braking zone. From that point on, camera angles show Nico made no attempt to turn into the apex. He would instead cut off Hamilton’s angle and force him over the kerb. The two met at the edge of the track, with Hamilton taking a hit that pushed him into the runoff area. Rosberg’s car deflected back toward the corner, but his front wing was crushed. He held the lead as Hamilton reentered the track, but Rosberg’s wing collapsed, with parts going underneath his car, as they both headed toward Turn 3. Hamilton sailed ahead to take his 46th Grand Prix.
