2016 Austrian Grand Prix

The Overview V

The Mercedes duo would push through traffic in tandem over the next 15 laps before their final lap banging match gave away a certain Mercedes 1-2 finish.

With Rosberg falling away, Max Verstappen gained the second step of the podium as he held on to claim second from Raikkonen despite nursing soft tyres for 56 laps. It was the 18-year olds’ second F1 podium after his win in the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this season.

Rosberg’s trashed Mercedes managed to crawl home fourth with his front wing wedged underneath his car. He would be given a 10-second penalty for the collision and receive two points on his license. It would make no difference as Rosberg remained well ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in fifth. Button would finish in sixth, one place in front of Romain Grosjean, who returned to the points for Haas F1 after four non-scores since the Russian Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz rose from fifteenth on the grid to claim eighth, ahead of Williams’ Valtteri Bottas. Manor’s Pascal Werhlein would take the final point for tenth.
