Paul McCartney’s 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 goes to auction

Bonhams is set to auction the machine that once belonged to Paul McCartney at this year’s Goodwood Members’ Meeting Sale, taking place this Sunday, 18 March. The 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 was one of only 247 built and believed to be one of four imported into the UK.

The 400GT 2+2 first appeared in 1966 as a development of Lamborghini’s first production car, the  350GT, featuring a 4.0-litre V12 with a maximum power output of 320bhp. The body was crafted in steel and retained the overall look of the 350GT but slightly taller.

The Lamborghini was delivered to McCartney in February 1968, just as the Beatles were at the height of their career and after finishing the recording of the Yellow Submarine album. The Beatle sold the car in 1979. After a few hands it was passed into its present ownership in 2011, and it has been kept in good condition and  stored in a climate-controlled environment in the Lamborghini dealership in Hong Kong since 2011. Apart from being a rare model, this Lamborghini also has some cultural significance and is estimated at £400,000-500,000.
