Roger Dubuis Excalibur

Roger Dubuis was once thought of as an independent watchmaker focusing on traditional craftsmanship. These days the brand is more commonly linked with the two motorsports brands – Lamborghini and Pirelli.

This all began with Lamborghini’s GT Championship Super Trofeo. Historical watchmaker Blancpain was the long-term partner of the one-make event, and it wasn’t until last year that the sponsor logo on the Huracan Super Trofeo was changed Roger Dubuis, a brand that is more than 200 years younger. In this partnership, Roger Dubuis may have rejuvenated Lamborghini, but the biggest beneficiary clearly is the Swiss watchmaker, as it has successfully shared the style and aesthetics of the Italian brand.

Excalibur Aventador S

The new Excalibur line continues to retain its bold design features: a large dial with extravagant bezel, highly skeletonised movement baseplate and bridges made possible with high tech computer-cutting, showing a series of movement components including the barrels and sprung balances. The brand new Calibre RD103SQ is extremely complex and made up of 312 components. The most remarkable part is the specially developed Duotor (double balance wheels) concept. At 5 o’clock and 10 o’clock of the movement you can see the double sprung balances linked with a differential. The barrel at the 2 o’clock features an engine hood cover inspired by Lamborghini supercars for decoration and protection.

The Excalibur Aventador S features a 45 mm multi-layered carbon fibre case, paired with pink gold bezel and a pink gold with black rubber crown. The sporty strap is made of two materials: black rubber at the bottom and above it Alcantara, which is a common material for the steering wheel and interior on Lamborghinis. The caseback is made of black DLC titanium and is engraved with the limited edition number (1 to 28), while “Aventador S” is marked on the sapphire at the back.

Excalibur Spider Pirelli

Pirelli is the maker of the tyres found on Lamborghini’s Huracan Super Trofeo as well as one of the key sponsors of the event. Therefore, the strap of the new Excalibur Spider watch itself features rubber inlays from Pirelli tyres that have actually competed in races, with signature tread motifs reproducing the profile of a Pirelli intermediate tyre. All Excalibur watches are equipped with a Quick Release system so changing of strap can be completed in seconds.

The Excalibur Spider Pirelli features a 45 mm diameter black DLC titanium case and bezel and crown of the same material, with the crown over-moulded with white rubber for a special touch. The automatic Calibre RD820SQ consists of 166 parts and has a micro-rotor. The watch is called “Spider” because of the skeleton baseplate and bridges, making the watch look as paired-down as the convertible Lambo. The key components of the movement are hand-decorated and electroplated in black NAC. The Hallmark of Geneva at 6 o’clock further certifies the quality of this top movement.
