Goodyear Oxygene concept tyre

Electric cars of course help reduce emissions by switching from gas to electricity, but sometimes it seems like we have stopped there in further making transportation greener. Goodyear has come up with something new in its Oxygene concept tyre that aims to solve air pollution on the road.

The Goodyear Oxygene concept features unique tread that absorbs moisture on the road to help grow moss on the sidewall. The living moss then inhales CO2 from the surrounding air and releases oxygen through photosynthesis. The energy generated from photosynthesis is sufficient to power electronics such as sensors artificial intelligence processing unit, light strip, etc. on the tyre. The rubber part of the tyre is 3D-printed with rubber powder recycled from worn tyres, offering another level of contribution to a sustainable environment. Goodyear predicts that if the 2.5 million vehicles in Paris switched to using Oxygene instead of the standard tyres, nearly 3,000 tons of oxygen would be generated and over 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide would be absorbed each year. Unfortunately these are all hypothetical figures and there is no solid plan in putting the concept into further research and development.
