Race For Glory: Audi vs Lancia

A new cinematic portrayal of auto racing is set to hit the big screen early next year. Titled “Race For Glory: Audi vs Lancia,” the film draws inspiration from true events during the 1983 Rally World Championship, specifically highlighting the intense rivalry between Audi and Lancia.

Directed by Stefano Mordini, who co-wrote the screenplay, the film stars Daniel Brühl — renowned for his portrayal of Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda in the biographical film “Rush” — as Roland Gumpert, the German engineer heading the Sport and Special Development team at Audi. Riccardo Scamarcio takes on the role of Cesare Fiorio, the driving force behind the Martini-liveried Lancia 037, challenging Audi’s Quattro A1 and Quattro A2. Additionally, Volker Bruch portrays German rally champion Walter Röhrl of Martini Racing.

Notably, Audi and Lancia dominated the 1983 Rally World Championship, clinching victory in 10 out of the 12 race events and securing a staggering 30 out of 36 podium positions combined—establishing their dominance far ahead of other competing teams throughout the season. While the online revelation of the 1983 World Manufacturers’ Champion is easily accessible, the film might provide a more engaging experience by allowing the facts to unfold on the screen.

“Race For Glory: Audi vs Lancia” is scheduled for a U.S. cinema release on January 5, 2024. While plans for showings in other countries and on streaming platforms are underway, specific dates have yet to be announced.
