A Fun Interpretation
Playmobil James Bond Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Edition

The Aston Martin DB5 was forever immortalised in the classic 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger as 007’s gadget-filled vehicle of choice. Apart from the rare few examples built for filming and promotion back in the 1960s, Aston Martin did bring out a very limited continuation car in 2018, while most fans are equally chuffed with the LEGO brick version announced that same year. Now, it is Playmobil’s turn to pay tribute to one of the most memorable vehicles in cinema history.

The DB5 toy car measures 38.5 cm long, 28.4 cm wide, and 9.4 cm tall, but its diminutive size doesn’t hinder the level of detail found on it. Staying true to the silver Aston Martin seen in the movie, the Playmobil DB5 features a removable roof that allows for an ejectable left passenger seat and swivelling number plates. Although the hidden machine guns behind headlights obviously don’t work, there is a bulletproof shield at the rear of the car, extendable front and rear bumpers, and wheels equipped with retractable tyre blocks.

Inside the box, there are also figurines — Beata Undine, James Bond, Auric Goldfinger, Oddjob, and a Goldfinger henchman, plus four gold bullion bars and a pair of binoculars for enthusiasts to recreate their own movie scene.

If one stunning toy car is not enough, the upcoming Playmobil Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole is equally worth collecting. This special edition is based upon the classic 1980s American TV crime series Magnum, P.I., and the main characters from the series — Thomas Magnum, T.C., Rick and Higgins — are included in the set. The Ferrari toy car also features great details including a removable roof, an openable engine hood, and two front headlights opened by pressing the buttons under the car.
