The most beautiful concept car
Mazda RX-VISION

Being a car designer is quite often described as a dream job for people who are fond of mechanics. What better than that? Perhaps a concept car designer. With that extra room in innovation and imagination without having to worry about the nitty-gritty side such as safety and regulatory compliance, it is definitely a far more enjoyable pursuit. This is why concept cars are so important in the industry – because they break boundaries.

Hence the criteria for selecting the Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year in the 31st Festival Automobile International held in Paris are based on pure creativeness, design and emergence of new trends. The Mazda RX-VISION, beating Bentley’s EXP10 and Peugeot’s Fractal, sharing one of the grand prizes of the annual event alongside Porsche’s Mission E, was chosen by a jury of experts and enthusiasts from motorsports, architecture, design and fashion. We haven’t decided if it is the prettiest, but the front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show last year does have pretty smooth and flowing lines. More interestingly, it is powered by the next generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine currently under research and development. We can see it being visualised as a road version and still maintaining its cool.
