The rapid growth of wearable technology has undoubtedly opened up many opportunities for major clothing brands as well as technology giants. A year ago, Google announced its “Project Jacquard” during the Google I/O conference and named the Levi’s brand its first official partner. After months of development, the first piece of the collaboration has unveiled: the Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket.

Based on the design of one of the denim brand’s signature styles, the Commuter Trucker Jacket is an integration between Google’s Jacquard technology and Levi’s diffusion Commuter line designed especially for urban bike commuters. The Trucker Jacket’s new conductive yarns enable touch interactivity through a sensor link called the “smart tag” on the left sleeves cuff. Wearers can control their mobile using simple gestures to answer or decline calls, skip songs, or even querying Google Maps for directions. The sensor is connected to the phone via Bluetooth and can be removed from the jacket and charged via USB, which also allows the jacket to be washed like any other garment.

The collaboration is set to launch in Spring 2017 in stores and online. Head over to “Project Jacquard” website to learn more details.
