Gathering of Air-cooled Porsches
Luftgekühlt 2016

In Porsche-speak, Luftgekühlt (German for air-cooled) denotes all of the air-cooled cars in the manufacturer’s history, from the Pre-A 356 through the 993 model line, which ended in 1998. Luftgekühlt™ is a brand founded initially as a series of automotive-themed events featuring historically significant or interesting cars – both race and street.

Luftgekühlt’s third event was just held in Los Angeles, bringing together more than 400 air-cooled Porsches and their owners over the sprawling grounds of the Modernica Furniture headquarters.

Attending the event were many well-known individuals who have close relationships with Porsche, including Porsche FIA World Endurance Championship racer and two-time Le Mans winner Patrick Long, and 911 tuner and restorer Magnus Walker. Among the iconic Porsches showcased were Jerry Seinfeld’s 904 Carrera GTS, a 934 from the Matsuda Collection, Jeff Zwart’s 1948 356 Gmünd Coupe, Don Murray’s 914-6 and a very rare 1968 Porsche 911L factory race car made street legal by its owners. The highlight of the event was the auction of a 1985 911 Carrera Coupe, customized by #LUFTAUTO as a rally-style project car, sold for a whopping $275,000 by RM Auctions to benefit the Autumn Leaves Project, a charity dedicated to pancreatic cancer research.
