Recycling Matters
Ore Streams by Formafantasma

Formafantasma, an Italian design duo based in Amsterdam, consists of Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin. The pair has dedicated their latest project, Ore Streams, to the subject of recycling precious electronic waste.

Formafantasma’s research suggests that by 2080, instead of hidden underground, the majority of metal will be found above ground as old building materials, appliances, furniture and an ever-growing amount of consumer electronic products. It’s no secret that more effort needs to be put in recycling and Formafantasma has set out to use appealing design to coax out the desire and possibilities of reusing material. The collection comprises a range of office furniture constructed using dead-stock and recycled resources: cabinets, desks, tablse, low chairs and workstation partitions. Materials used include aluminium mobile cases, other mobile components, aluminium laptop and desktop cases, steel microwave parts and more.

Ore Streams is commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne for the inaugural NGV Triennial, joined by the work of over 100 international artists and designers. The Triennial runs until 15 April 2018.
