The Overview IV

By lap 32, Rosberg’s Mercedes came alive as the track dried further. He closed on Verstappen only to have the Dutch youngster firmly shut the door on the frustrated German for the next six laps. Rosberg finally made the pass stick around the outside of Stowe.

Rosberg then reeled in Hamilton, closing the gap from eight to six seconds before his engineers radioed their gearbox warning. Rosberg’s pace slowed allowing Verstappen to close to 1.2 seconds behind on lap 49. Understeering and oversteering from his worn tires for the last 29 laps, Verstappen held third to the flag.

Teammate Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth for the fifth time in 10 races this season, with Raikkonen fifth after passing Sergio Perez on lap 48 into Stowe. Nico Hulkenberg was seventh, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr and Vettel, who held onto ninth despite a five-second time penalty for forcing Felipe Massa off the track at Village. Daniil Kvyat completed the top 10 to deliver Toro Rosso’s fourth double-points finish of the season.
