Leica X-U
Shooting under any weather.

Under the development of the industry, creative and portable cameras have become more and more professional, much to say that they are able to replace intermediate equipments. Leica has been holding an open attitude for their products in recent years, allowing a lot of their latest products to easily integrate with time. To welcome the adventurous summer, they have recently released their first rugged Leica X-U (Model Typ 113), a confident choice for those who emphasis on exquisite quality, but wishes to retain a lightweight product.

Apart from its shock-proof and dust-sealed quality, the Leica X-U can also stand the water pressure at a depth of 15m, for as long as 60 minutes. Its simple, all black exterior looks like it is covered in rubber, with the top, bottom and the lens part fitted with aluminum material. The most surprising thing is how the factory has retained their traditional control, including the large aperture Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH., a shutter and an aperture dial on top of the machine. This makes it easy to operate even when the user is wearing diving gloves underwater. Compared to daily shooting specifications, the underwater environment undoubtedly requires better sensitivity requirement, which is why the machine is preloaded with a ½.3 inch 16.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, making it much better equipped than any other rugged cameras in the market. With its maximum sensitivity at ISO 12, 500, it makes it advantageous for shooting fish and other organisms. To match its shortest focus distance of 20cm, the flash is deliberately placed in front of the viewfinder, making the process of shooting or constructing a scene more agile. Leica’s official website is now accepting orders, with the product being priced at USD $2, 950.
