Ecclestone Has It
Senna’s 1993 winning F1 car was sold for €4.19 million

As previously reported, Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP4/8A F1 race car was to be sold through Bonhams Monaco auction this year, and expected to be sold for a record-breaking price. A few days ago, the auction took place, and the car was sold to former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone for €3,650,000. After adding the buyer’s premium, Ecclestone eventually had to pay €4,197,500 for the said car.

The McLaren F1 car was powered by a Ford-supplied “HB” Cosworth V8 engine. In this particular chassis number #6, Senna won his sixth and last Manaco Grand Prix. In the same season this race car contested seven other Grands Prix in Spain, Canada, France, Britain, Germany, Belgium and Italy, before it was used as a spare car in the Japanese and Australian Grands Prix.

On another note, it’s known that Ecclestone has a extensive collection of historic F1 cars, having kept the majority of the Brabhams raced under his tenure as the team’s owner and bought others in auctions over the years.
