The North Face × Karrimor × Junya Watanabe Jackets

Japanese fashion designer Junya Watanabe is known for his experiments with cutting-edge fabrics and innovative tailoring and draping. His work has been well-received, and he has become one of the most respected menswear designers representing Japan. Despite being an alumnus of Rei Kawakubo’s own COMME des GARÇONS, it is his creative and conceptual vision that has made Junya Watanabe stand out from the crowd.

Junya Watanabe has been working with other fashion labels to facilitate his cutting-edge ideas, including American denim label Levi’s, outerwear specialist The North Face, and Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe. Watanabe takes cues from traditional workwear, classic outerwear and luxury fashion to create an impressive and never-before-seen piece of clothing while maintaining a balance between creativity and functionality.

Case in point are these deconstructed jackets from his Junya Watanabe MAN Spring/Summer 2018 collection shown at the Paris Fashion Week. The back of these jackets cleverly incorporates the backpack designs of U.K. sports equipment brand Karrimor and The North Face, while the front still features the signature patchwork construction of Watanabe, resulting in another iconic piece from the renowned Japanese designer that always finds designs that remain fascinating.
