Gordon Murray Design's New Headquarters in the UK

British architecture studio Design Engine has won a competition to build the new UK headquarters for Formula One car designer Gordon Murray. While the numbers of participants is unknown, reports have claimed that Design Engine beat Foster + Partners for the job.

“The cross-over between automotive design and buildings has fascinated architects ever since the first production car was completed,” said Design Engine founding director Richard Jobson. “It is therefore incredibly exciting to develop a series of buildings which will enable GMD to continue to be at the forefront of global car design.”

The three-stage scheme will be located in Shalford, Surrey, and will feature six new buildings on a site close to the company’s existing headquarters. A new design and engineering block will be built in the first phase, followed by main offices and a restaurant in phase two, with the remainder coming together in the final phase.

The scheme will be submitted for planning permission in Spring 2018 with work expected to begin on site in July 2018.
