Beauty from the Past
1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS Prototipo awarded Best of Show at 2017 Villa d’Este

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este ranks as the world’s most exclusive and traditional beauty contest for historic automobiles and motorcycles. The event took place from May 26-28 this year on the shores of Lake Como with great vibes and crowds, not to mention the 51 rare cars, 49 historic motorcycles and numerous concept cars.

The highlight of the event was the juried “Best of Show” award presented to the 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale Prototipo. For the fourth time in succession, an Italian production vehicle has won the most coveted award from the show. This Italian beauty also won the visitors’ hearts as it was selected as their favourite.

The winning coupé was designed by Franco Scaglione while he worked for coachbuilder Bertone in the 1950s and his daughter Giovanna Scaglione was present at Villa d’Este to introduce it. The prototype has a streamlined yet beautiful alloy body with a four-cylinder engine generating 100 hp. The Sprint Speciale Prototipo was the predecessor of the 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale.
