IWC Ingenieur “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG”

Automobile racing and horology are inseparable industries. Performing against the stopwatch is essential for high-performance vehicles, and thus each automaker has partnered with an iconic watch brand. Mercedes-AMG has worked with IWC for quite some time, and the watchmaker just launched the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG” during the Nürburgring 24 Hours last week.

As befits a racing-related special edition, inside the 44 mm titanium case the dial design adopts the colours found on racetracks, with red and white for the kerbs and black for the asphalt. The tachymeter is, of course, present for measuring car performance. Underneath is the IWC’s in-house chronograph 89361 calibre that beats 28,800 times per hour and has a 68-hour power reserve when fully wound. Like the first Ingenieur from 1955, the “50th Anniversary” sports a soft-iron cage for magnetic field protection. The lower part of the cage is designed in the style of an AMG brake disc and is visible through the sapphire panel on the case back. The case back also bears the engraving “A tribute to one man, one engine” reiterating that every AMG engine is created by a single master engine builder. The watch is limited to 250 pieces.
