Automotive Emergence
Cars and Lifestyles in Hong Kong Exhibition

Curated by Edwin K. Lai and Jack S.C. Lee, “Motor Cars: Cars and Lifestyles in Hong Kong in the Twentieth Century” is an exhibition featuring automotive photographs that take us on a journey back in time to the introduction of the automobile in Hong Kong. These photographs are mostly submissions from open calls, although some of them were purchased from foreign auction websites or private collections.

During Hong Kong’s colonial period, one would suppose driving British cars to be very common, but the photos from the exhibition reveal that American and Australian cars were also popular. Spending time with these old photographs will help us discover how Hong Kong’s automotive industry developed and how it shaped our present society.

The exhibition runs until May 22 at Lumevisum Gallery, Hong Kong.
