As Seen Crashing On Screen
‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Lamborghini Countach for auction

It’s a given that car owners hold their collection dear, considering them among their most cherished possessions. So, witnessing expensive machines collide in movies, knowing that no one is harmed in the process, undoubtedly offers a unique thrill that’s unattainable in real life.

One such cinematic spectacle can be found in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” where a Lamborghini Countach meets a brutal fate at the hands of Jordan Belfort, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, the opportunity to own this wrecked Lamborghini is on the horizon, as it’s slated for sale at a Bonhams auction later this month.

This particular example, bearing chassis number VIN ZA9CA05A6KLA12692, is one of the 658 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Editions manufactured in 1989. With coachwork by Bertone, a US-spec configuration, and an elegant Bianco Polo exterior over Bianco interior, it served as the hero car during its appearance in “The Wolf of Wall Street.” In the movie, Jordan Belfort somehow manages to drive the Countach home safely, albeit under the influence of Quaaludes. However, in the subsequent scene, it becomes evident that Belfort has collided with several vehicles and objects, resulting in substantial damage to the precious car.

This unique Countach will be offered at “On The Grid: The Abu Dhabi Auction,” scheduled for November 25th, and will be sold in the same condition it appeared on screen. The winning bidder will also receive a generous memorabilia package, including a Jordan Belfort costume, a director’s chair, and a clapboard, all autographed by Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie, as well as two original crew hoodies and two DVDs of the film. Further bidding details can be found on the Bonhams website. Interestingly, the nearly identical backup Countach from the film (which remained unscathed) is also set to be auctioned through RM Sotheby’s on December 8th. Both examples carry the same estimated value of $1.5 – $2 million.
