McLaren has brought its signature Papaya Orange hue to its latest collaboration with high-performance sports footwear brand Athletic Propulsion Labs.  The limited edition APL McLaren HySpeed running shoe doesn’t just come in distinctive colourways — its brand new silhouette is also directly inspired by McLaren supercars and, just like the automotive art it takes its cues from, is designed to improve performance too.

The HySpeed sees the debut of APL’s latest pod-based midsole technology. Featuring a three-piece segmented midsole, the APL FutureFoam pods in the front and rear are connected by a full-length carbon fibre plate, then topped by a brand new nitrogen-infused midsole compound that offers great responsiveness, promotes forward movement, and generates energy return. The three protruding cushions at the heel are said to be modelled after the lightweight seats of the McLaren Senna. The heel padding and the footwear maker’s signature Soufflé Sockliner ensure the foot is held in place, maximising comfort level for every step.

The McLaren logo adorns the pull tab, while the tongue is decorated with the APL logo. The two brand logos can also be seen on the underfoot and the carbon fibre midsole. Other than the vibrant Papaya Orange, the HySpeed is available in four other colourways: White/Papaya Orange, White/Black/Ombre, Energy/Metallic Silver, and Rose Dust/Creme. Priced at $450, the HySpeed is the most expensive APL product so far.
