Brooklyn-based artist Jordan Griska has unveiled his latest artwork called “Wreck”, influenced by fatal automobile accidents and online pictures of car crashes. This finely detailed life-sized sculpture represents a current model Mercedes Benz S550, shimmering like a crystal and yet severely splintered, evoking both luxury and mortality.

“Wreck” is built upon a 3D model of the S550 and is constructed using highly-polished, precise laser-cut stainless steel fragments. Griska created the sculpture as an unflinching depiction of the dual nature of American culture; contrasting wealth, freedom and individuality with decadence, debauchery and tailspin, as both sides of the same coin.

The sculpture is now displaying at Pier 9 in San Francisco.
