Tribute To The Lunar Mare
Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms “Ocean of Storms”

Swatch and Blancpain’s collaborative Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection introduced five distinctive diver’s watches last year, each paying homage to one of the Earth’s five oceans, along with Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms diver’s watch, originally launched in 1953. The watchmakers have now unveiled a new timepiece, “Ocean of Storms,” which references the lunar mare known by its Latin name, Oceanus Procellarum.

Following the established format, the new watch boasts a 42.3 mm diameter case, bezel, and crown, all crafted from Swatch’s patented Bioceramic material. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a 60-minute diving scale. Positioned between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock on the black sunray-finish dial is the date indicator. The hands, hour markers on the dial, and the scale on the bezel are all coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring clear readability in low-light conditions. The Blancpain x Swatch logos adorn the dial and the crown, with the Swatch wordmark engraved on the side of the case.

This diver’s watch is driven by Swatch’s SISTEM51 mechanical anti-magnetic, self-winding movement, providing a 90-hour power reserve. The transparent display case back reveals a striking digital imprint of the full moon with the Ocean of Storms on the oscillating weight, alongside the image of the nudibranch Okenia Luna printed on the rotor. Notably, the watch maintains a water resistance of 91 meters (equivalent to 50 fathoms), in line with the original Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, named after the unit of measurement used at its inception. Completing the diver’s watch is a striped NATO strap crafted from recycled fishing nets.

While the Ocean of Storms is not a limited edition, it is exclusively available for purchase at selected Swatch stores.
