Gunther Werks has spent the past nine years finding new ways to push the air-cooled Porsche 911 beyond its original brief. With the GXR-Evo, the Californian company has gone further still. Based on the 993-generation platform, it is the company’s fastest naturally aspirated creation to date, built around a simple idea: strip away anything unnecessary and sharpen everything that remains.
At 1,082 kg dry, the GXR-Evo is around 95 kg lighter than the Gunther Werks Coupe. Much of that saving comes from a full carbon-fibre body finished in a distinctive 12k 2×2 weave. The aero package features a deep front splitter, canards, and integrated tunnels that direct air through the vented front wings. A large new rear wing takes care of the other end, joined by a shark-fin stability element in place of the conventional rear window.
Rothsport Racing helped develop the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, which produces 455 hp and revs to almost 9,000 rpm. A slide-valve throttle-body system improves airflow and response, while power is sent through a comprehensively reworked Getrag G50 six-speed manual gearbox. The straight-pipe exhaust should make the experience anything but subtle.
Circuit-focused hardware continues underneath with bespoke double-wishbone front suspension, three-way adjustable JRZ dampers, Brembo Pista racing brakes, and lightweight magnesium centre-lock wheels. Motorsport-grade ABS adds some reassurance when pushing hard.
The cabin is stripped back with the same intent. A carbon-Kevlar racing seat, six-point harness, and eight-point roll cage sit alongside a configurable MoTeC display, pneumatic air jacks, electronic fire suppression, and even a helmet cooling system for extended track sessions.
Production is capped at just 15 cars, with each buyer also receiving a bespoke MYSIM racing simulator configured to mirror their individual GXR-Evo.
