The Gold Standard
Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition

Few pieces of audio equipment have crossed between hi-fi, club culture, and popular design quite like the Technics SL-1200. First introduced in 1972, the direct-drive turntable became an essential tool for generations of DJs and remains instantly recognisable more than half a century later. To celebrate 55 years of the series, Technics has created the SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition.

The special edition keeps the familiar SL-1200 silhouette intact but adds a generous dose of gold. Its S-shaped aluminium tonearm receives a gold-anodised finish, matched by the tonearm base, control knobs, and buttons. The platter gains a gold-coloured outer rim and strobe markings, while a specially designed gold-themed slipmat completes the treatment. An individually engraved anniversary badge displaying the serial number provides the finishing touch.

Seven colours are available: Gold, Blue, Red, Black, Green, White, and Grey. Depending on the combination, the gold hardware can either blend into the deck or stand out dramatically, giving this familiar piece of DJ equipment a surprisingly different personality.

The anniversary edition uses the same proven SL-1200MK7 platform. Its iron-coreless direct-drive motor features a single-stator, single-rotor arrangement with digital control for stable rotation and rapid start-up. The traditional vertical pitch fader allows adjustment of up to ±16 per cent, while the height-adjustable tonearm accommodates a wide range of cartridges. Reverse Play is also included for more experimental DJ techniques.

Production will be limited to 12,000 individually numbered examples worldwide.
