The Jack Heuer Era
The Crosthwaite & Gavin Collection

Heuer was perhaps the most important Swiss sports watch brand of the 20th century, but in the last few decades Rolex has somewhat stolen the limelight, with classic antique models of Heuer only chased by diehard collectors. With the antique watch market getting hotter in recently years, many buyers have shifted their attention away from the more popular brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe to other underestimated brands like Heuer.

Renowned Heuer collector and antique dealer Crosthwaite & Gavin is organising a special auction with Philips auction house for a batch of classic and important Heuer watches. The auction will take place during the “The Geneva Watch Auction: SIX” on November 11th to 12th. 49 Heuer watches, including some from the famous collection of fourth-generation owner Jack Heuer will be on offer. To some extent, this auction is set to pay tribute to this important figure of watchmaking in the 20th Century.

The 42 pieces on offer includes the first sports chronograph, Autavia, developed under Jack Heuer’s supervision. The timepiece was inspired by Jack Heuer’s personal experience in rally racing. The watch was specially designed to be used professionally in racing, aviation, diving and other extreme sports. Out of all the Autavia models, the first execution of “Big Sub” Ref. 2446M grabs the most attention. This example is expected to be highly contested, as good condition Ref. 2446M watches with trackable history are rarely seen on the market. The auction also includes a brand new Autavia designed by Jack Heuer, and the proceeds will be donated to Save The Children for charitable purposes.
