The Furies of Yesteryear
Group B rally cars in Bonhams' Quail Lodge Auction

Group B, the short-lived motor racing class that lasted for only a fews years from 1982 to 1986, is often missed for its inclusion of some of the most powerful rally cars built. The regulations allowed fast and fiery racing but at the same time major and fatal accidents could not be avoided. Although Group B Homologation cars are not frequently found in the market, an upcoming Bonhams auction will be offering a few of these classic gems.

Legendary World Rally Championship winners such as the Lancia Stratos HF Stradale of the pre-Group B era, Lancia Rally 037 Stradale, Lancia Delta S4 Stradale and Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 will feature in the auction, as well as Pikes Peak International Hill Climb winner Audi Sport Quattro S1. Other options include the Ford RS200 Evolution, which was the world’s fastest accelerating car when launched, and its slightly less aggressive brother Ford RS200.

The auction is taking place at Bonhams’ Quail Lodge in Carmel, California on August 18. A total of 115 exquisite vehicles will be on offer, including a 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight once raced in Le Mans.
