Ten years ago, German-American artist Chris Kippenberger started his project called “Kart Kids”, a film that aims to chronicle the high-stakes world of German go-kart racing. The latest addition to the series is a three-minute short documentary that offers a captivating look at three young racing drivers who all began racing at a very young age.

Speaking of his ongoing project, Kippenberger comments, “Kart Kids, at its core, chronicles the high-stakes world of German go-kart racing. Karting has been the breeding ground for countless Formula 1 greats and near-greats throughout the years—and whether it’s the result of natural talent, dedicated mentorship, or skilful deception, this is where professional racing careers are made and broken.” He adds, “This a project that I’ve been shooting for ten years now. It takes disposable media and reverses it. It’s an extended study not only of racing but also its personalities and what comes next—regardless of what that may entail.”
