Urwerk UR-210 Amadeus

While there are plenty of amazing watchmakers out there, there are two that we consider to be the most avant-garde and daring, yet at the same time retain the art of traditional watchmaking craftsmanship: one is Richard Mille, the other is Urwerk. The essence of Urwerk’s watchmaking lies in its satellite complication with retrograde minute, together with its innovative, almost futuristic design, it sets the brand apart from its peers. The latest model, the UR-210 Amadeus, was inspired by an 18th century baroque wall clock. It took craftsman Florian Güllert 260 hours to complete the work on the case and strap, combining a futuristic display and a post-Renaissance aesthetic on this delicate masterpiece.

The UR-210’s satellite complication with retrograde minute features an oversized, three-dimensional retrograde minute hand that encloses the hour satellite and indicates the time as it smoothly transverses the 0-to-60-minute scale tracing an arc of 120°. By the end of the 59th minute, a distinct “click” signals the return of the minute hand to its starting point. In less than 0.1 seconds the hand flies back to dock with the next hour satellite. There is a power reserve indicator on the dial at one o’clock and a similar feature at 11 o’clock. The latter indicates the winding efficiency over the last two hours, which is the first in the world. If the wearer’s activity in the past two hours is sufficient to replenish the watch’s energy level, the winding efficiency indicator will point to the green zone; while the indicator will point to the red zone if energy being used is greater than the energy being generated.
