Slide to Celebrate
Gymkhana video by Ford Romania

Since 2008, Ken Block has set about becoming one of the biggest names in motorsport through his incredibly popular Gymkhana video series. Videos of a similar style have spawned from every imaginable place and motoring discipline, but perhaps Block wouldn’t expect this one: Ford Romania has come up with their own Gymkhana-style video homage to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Craiova manufacturing plant.

Ford Romania did not invite Block, who is currently sponsored by the automaker. Instead, they invited someone closer to home, the Italian-Romanian rally driver Simone Tempestini, the 2016 Junior World Rally Champion, to lay down some rubber in a Fiesta R5. Tempestini’s partner in crime is powered by a 290 hp 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a Sadev five-speed sequential gearbox.

While production levels can’t touch Block’s mega-budget affairs, Tempestini’s driving skills certainly do a nice job of honouring the Craiova production plant’s fortieth birthday, especially considering the fairly obvious lack of power in comparison to Block’s monster Fords used in his Gymkhana series!
