Japanese designer Chitose Abe is known for her signature hybridisation techniques by combining two garments into a new form of a silhouette. Abe and her label ‘sacai’ regularly push the boundaries of fashion innovation and experimentation since it was founded in 1999. For this season, Chitose Abe has teamed up with The North Face for a capsule collection of contemporary outerwear, which reimagines some of the classic pieces from this leading outdoor lifestyle brand.
This time around, The North Face’s iconic Mountain Jacket and Nuptse Jacket have been combined with sacai’s MA-1 bomber jacket silhouette for a more contemporary look while still maintaining practical functionality. The long coat now features a tuxedo hem at the back for a modern touch, with T-Shirts, sweatshirts, pants and caps to round up the collection.
Ever since it premiering in sacai’s 2017 fall/winter presentation during January’s Paris Fashion Week, the collection has gathered quite a bit of attention from the media and fashion fans. After months of waiting, the collection has finally arrived at London’s Dover Street Market and Paris’ select store ‘colette’. Shortly, Abe’s will also be available at sacai, and The North Face Urban Exploration stores worldwide.
