Continental to showcase two advanced wireless charging systems at CES 2018

German automotive manufacturing company Continental AG is set to showcase two advanced battery charging systems at CES 2018.

The first is an automated wireless charging solution for EVs. According to the company, the charging power is transferred wirelessly from a ground-based charging pad to a receiver pad on the underside of the vehicle. All the driver needs to do is merely park over the charging pad, assisted by an innovative Continental micro-navigation solution. Once the car stops at an inductive charge parking bay, an authentication dialogue automatically activates the charging station. Further, a human-machine interface indicated to the driver when the vehicle has reached the correct parking position and confirms that charging has started.

The second system, “AllCharge,” transforms the EV into a “universal charger” for wired charging at charging stations equipped with different technologies. The driver can utilise any charging station/socket and re-charge their vehicle battery without having to worry about the station’s charging technology. Further, its V2D (vehicle-to-device) technology also allows the vehicle battery to be used to power mobile electrical devices ranging from a laptop to a refrigerator or an electric drill.

CES 2018 will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 9 to 12 2018.
