Potential Name For GT3 Road Car
Toyota trademarks ‘GR GT’ logo

Toyota unveiled the GR GT3 concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2022. Based on interviews conducted over the past two years, expectations are that the GR GT3 will make its debut in the World Endurance Championship in 2026. Consequently, the production of its street-legal counterpart is anticipated to align with FIA regulations in the same year. Recently, Toyota filed a trademark for the ‘GR GT’ logo with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), intensifying speculation surrounding the development and specifics of this upcoming sports car.

The patent registration for the GR GT logo was submitted to the EUIPO and equivalent authorities worldwide on January 19 of this year. Additionally, patent images of an unnamed Toyota sports car, filed in 2022, are accessible on the same EUIPO website. Notably, this car closely resembles the GR GT3 concept, albeit lacking the imposing rear wing.

Applying the GR GT badge to the road-ready GR GT3 race car appears to be the most practical choice. However, discussions persist regarding whether the production car will be introduced under the Toyota or Lexus brand, or if the GR GT name will be reserved for a potential revival of the Toyota 2000GT, marking its 60th anniversary in 2025.

As of now, Toyota has refrained from commenting on the recently registered logo. Enthusiasts can only anticipate that, regardless of where it finds its place, it will manifest as a formidable and stylish production car that resonates with general car enthusiasts.
