Luxury’s automated future
Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 concept

While most Rolls-Royce owners employ chauffeurs and seldom need to drive their vehicle, having a bespoke autonomous car with an AI assistant is another level of supreme luxury. Codenamed the 103EX, Rolls-Royce recently unveiled this striking example as one of their four concepts celebrating the BMW Group’s 100th-anniversary campaign.

An AI virtual assistant named the ‘Voice of Eleanor’, not only pilots the car, but also reminds the owners of their appointments and itinerary all while making sure the car is ready at the right moment. The future will probably not feature the famous Rolls-Royce V12 engine, as one can only assume there will be zero emissions required from the powertrain. The concept represents an expected future luxury vehicle with neither a steering wheel nor instrument panel as it’s not intended to be driven. For those passengers, the cabin will feature sofa-like silk seats for two and a large transparent OLED screen for journey information and entertainment.

The 5.9 metres long and 1.6 metres high body matches the proportion of today’s Phantom Extended Wheelbase. The extra large 28-inch wheels allow a carriage-like elevated cabin that parallels the owner’s stature. The glass canopy lifts for passenger egress enabling them to stand before stepping out of the car onto a red carpet-like projection.

The Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 concept might resemble an incredibly svelte prop from a sci-fi film, but with the luxury manufacturer’s expectations of a 2040 release date, many of us might someday witness or even experience its promises.
