Inspired By The FM2
Nikon Z f

In an age where smartphone cameras have reached a level of quality suitable that allows them to capture genuinely cinematic moments, there still remains a particular allure to wielding a true camera. It’s this enduring fascination that continues to fuel the innovation behind new digital camera models like the recently-announced Nikon Z f full-frame mirrorless camera.

The Z f pays homage to the timeless aesthetics of the iconic Nikon FM2 film camera that dates back to 1982. However, its retro charm extends far beyond its appearance — this camera offers an authentically vintage tactile experience, whether it’s conveyed through the knurling of the brass dials or the mechanical shutter release button.

Under the hood, the Z f boasts a full-frame 24.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, harmoniously paired with the cutting-edge EXPEED 7 processing engine. By employing pixel shift shooting technology, the Z f is able to scale up to a staggering 96 megapixels. When it comes to videography, the Z f supports 4K UHD at 60p and 1080p at 120fps, all with extended recording times of up to 125 minutes. The new camera also sits atop the image stabilization mountain within the Nikon Z series, effectively enhancing stability by an impressive 8.0-stop increment in shutter speed.

In fitting with the external aesthetics, the Z f introduces a dedicated black-and-white photography mode, accessible via a physical switch, that offers a range of monochromatic picture controls. In an effort to cater to the needs of content creators, a front-facing screen has also been added.

Beyond its standard black model, the Z f promises a delightful array of limited-edition colour variants, including Indigo Blue, Sepia Brown, Bordeaux Redlets, Sunset Orange, Moss Green, and Stone Grey, slated for release in mid-October. This diverse palette ensures that users can choose a camera that not only delivers exceptional performance but also mirrors their personal style.
