Ink Stone As Jewellery Boxes
Ink by Mario Tsai

Differing from the practice of using reed and quill pens for writing in Europe, the “Four Treasures of the Study”consisting of brush, ink, paper and ink stone, was invented in China and widely used throughout East Asia. These tools are always of a high quality and exquisitely crafted, making the writing instruments treasured handicrafts.

Designer Mario Tsai from mx object has created a series of jewellery boxes called Ink, which is inspired by the ink stones of the Four Treasures of the Study. Ink is digitally cut for its extremely simple and clean lines and hand polished to a fine finish. There are two boxes in the series and the difference is only on the box covers: one has a low key handle and the other one has a slot on the cover. The first is more conventional, while the latter one allows rings to be inserted and set vertically. Not only are the accessories neatly organised, the jewelry box also looks interesting as a  ornamental piece.
