New Balance is famous for its wide range of sneakers in different shades of grey. The colour is classic and easy to mix and match with different colour palettes, meaning grey New Balance sneakers have long been a staple item in many stylish wearers’ shoe rack. The brand is clearly aware of the significance, so much so that it celebrates “Grey Day” annually with special edition shoes.
Interestingly, the birth of the grey New Balance running shoe was due to practicality back in the 1970s, as urban runners’ white shoes were getting ruined as they ran in the city, while grey suede material was more durable on the asphalt.
For this year’s Grey Day, which is 12 May, New Balance is launching the new “Moon Daze” pack, a MADE in USA Grey Day Collection, plus other grey products. The Moon Daze collection reimagines classic New Balance silhouettes, namely the 550, 580, 9060, as well as the newer Fresh Foam x More Trail v3, with inspirations drawn from the future, adding a few shades of blue to the classic grey hues. As for the MADE in USA Grey Day capsule collection, the American-made 990v4, 990v6, 996, and 998 are now unified under the grey and blue colourway.
Accompanying the special edition shoes is an array of casual wear in grey, including tees, hoodies, shorts, sweatpants, and more. The Grey Day collections are available now in selected New Balance stores and online.
