First 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 goes to charity auction

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 was unveiled a few months ago, and it is almost a tradition for the automaker to offer the first production example via charity auction. For the 2019 year model the first Corvette ZR-1 will be auctioned at Barret-Jackson’s Scottsdale event on 20 January, with 100% of the hammer price being donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The foundation, which is named after a New York City firefighter who lost his life on 9/11, supports American first responders and injured service members.

The fastest and most powerful Corvette to date, the new ZR-1 is powered by a fresh hand-built LT5 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine with 755 hp. It can be paired with a 7-speed manual transmission with active rev matching or an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. The car features extensive use of carbon-fibre inside and out, and since the car has not been built yet, the winning bidder probably can add his or her own preferences to make things a little more personal.
