First Outing
BMW M8 GTE

Most race teams have released some form of image or information of their racers participating in 2018 races, but little is known about BMW’s new M8 GTE. A fully camouflaged early prototype of the road-going BMW M8 was revealed earlier in May, and the German automaker just released a sketch of the mysterious M8 GTE race car as teaser and subsequently photos of the camouflaged prototype testing on track. The three-day test took place at the Lausitzring in Germany was the first test outing for the new racer outside of BMW Plants.

M8 GTE will debut at the 2018 Daytona 24 Hours of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as a replacement of the M6 GTLM. It is also set to compete as a LMGTE car, meaning it will join the FIA World Endurance Championship and race in 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is the first time in six years that BMW has competed as a factory team. This means the new car will be running against the likes of the Ferrari 488, Aston Martin Vantage, Porsche 911 RSR, Ford GT and Corvette C7.R.
