With the global population only rising we can expect the roads to become more congested in the future unless we change our travelling habits. Architecture firm Oiio has come up with a radical proposal for Los Angeles for the year 2060.

Developed earlier this year for the Automobility Designer/Developer Challenge 2017 at the LA Auto Show, the Oto concept swaps the automobile as we know it for bubble-like cabins and changeable wheelbases. These wheelbases are powered by motors and controlled by AI, with some of them being able to go up vertically along a wall. Future LA residents can just own the transparent cabin, and through AI, they could form a temporary transport unit with a shared wheelbase according to their exact needs. Oiio believes that contemporary cars with a cabin, engine and a trunk use too many resources because in most cases not all three components are used but they cannot be separated.
