Lunaz Design Classic Electric Cars

With the emission regulations getting stricter and stricter in many parts of the world, it is sad but true that we won’t be able to take our beloved classic cars on the road sooner than we thought. Classic car enthusiast David Lorenz established Lunaz Design to turn beautiful classic cars to electric power, ensuring our future generations would be able to enjoy classic machines as we do.

The British startup is keen on maintaining the essence of the classics and there is a lot more to do than just swapping the engine and fuel tank with motor and battery pack. The process begins with 3D scanning and weighing to ensure every new part fits perfectly and the car’s weight distribution doesn’t change much after the conversion. The whole car is then taken apart for examination and components are replaced only when needed. Apart from converting the power to electric and all the related electronics and gear upgrades,  Lunaz also adds amenities such as new air conditioning and heating systems, new sound systems, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, touchscreen displays and more to make it a pleasant drive in modern days’ sense.

So far the company has shown two examples – a 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V powered by 120kWh battery pack, and a 1953 Jaguar XK120 delivering 380 hp and 700Nm. These classics will have a range of 400 km per charge and a 1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud is also on its way.
