Biopic Of An Automotive Giant
Ferrari film trailer

In recent years there has been quite a few big-budget automotive movies to accompany the never-ending Fast & Furious franchise, which can only be good news for all enthusiasts. The upcoming film, Ferrari, made its world premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival on 31st August, and received a 7-minute standing ovation. So far the reviews have been positive and promising.

Directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Ali) and starring Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari, the film is based on the 1991 biography Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine written by motorsport journalist Brock Yates. Out of Enzo’s 90 years of life, the story of Ferrari is set in the summer of 1957 — he’s long retired as a race driver and is now focused on managing the car manufacturer and racing team he founded under his name, yet this proves to be a difficult time both professionally and personally for Ferrari, as the factory is facing financial challenges and his son Dino had died the previous year. Enzo’s marriage to Laura Ferrari (played by Penélope Cruz) is also hindered by the existence of his other son Piero from his affair with Lina Lardi, but what Enzo must focus on is winning the 1957 Mille Miglia endurance race.

As the movie is based in the automotive and motorsport spheres, we can expect to see replicas of the beautiful Ferrari 315 S – the car prepared for the Mille Miglia – plus other signature prancing horses and their peers, and of course some high-tension race scenes. The film also stars Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gordon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey.

Ferrari is scheduled to be released this Christmas. Check out the first official teaser trailer while we wait to see the film in cinemas.
