Attention Well-Deserved
1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione 'Tour de France' by Scaglietti

A rare 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta ‘Tour de France’ will be available at auction later this month by RM Sotheby’s. A member of the historic 250 family, the 250 GT  Berlinetta was used as race car in the Tour de France rally in the 1950s and hence the nickname. Between 1956 and 1959, a total of 72 examples were built.

The chassis number ‘0879 GT’ seen here is the 15th out of 17 built in 1957 and has Scaglietti coachwork. The 3-litre V12 engine is good for 258 hp and was paired with specially tuned gearbox and limited-slip differential for competition use. It was delivered new to German racer Wolfgang Seidel, but his co-pilot Wolfgang von Trips crashed the car during the Tour de France race. Seidel competed 0879 GT between 1958 and 1964 in all kinds of races. After that, the Ferrari regularly changed owners, but remained in German territory.

On 12 May, this Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France will go under the hammer in Monaco by RM Sotheby’s. The estimate sees it reaching somewhere in the region of US$10,000,000.
