An Offbeat Prancing Horse
1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Shooting Brake

To most, Ferrari is a synonym for exclusive super cars and glorious race cars. This is of course all true, but let’s not forget the diversity of what a Ferrari could be.

The station wagon featured here, a 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Shooting Brake, was customised by Ferrari distributor and former Le Mans winner Luigi Chinetti Jr with American illustrator Bob Peak and built by Vignale. The body was almost completely new with just the original windshield and a section of each door. An elongated station wagon-like roof with a large hinged rear glass hatch were added. The Italian coachbuilder was clearly proud of the work as they exhibited it on Vignale’s stand at the 1968 Torino Motor Show before delivery. It is believed to be the last Ferrari with Vignale coachwork.

The fact that it was once owned by Jay Kay of Jamiroquai may add to its mystique. The car was restored in the 1990s and recently refreshed, and is now on offered at auction by Gooding & Company.
