An Emotional Journey
Sea of Solitude

With personal references and emotions written into the plot, Sea of Solitude created by Cornelia Geppert and her team at the Berlin-based developer Jo-Mei Games is not your standard role play exploration game. Released this month through EA Originals, the game tells a story of young woman overcoming loneliness and going through her emotional journey.

The player’s character is Kay, and she appears as a monster because this is how she sees herself, consumed by her issues. Kay is sailing alone in a small boat in the flooded yet beautiful drawn game world. The water rises and falls, reflecting her own mind, and revealing new areas of the world where she meets different monsters and creatures. Through clearing corruption swarms, solving challenges, learning the monsters’ stories and gathering collectable items, Kay faces the painful memories from the past and gradually learns how to approach life even though things are not perfect. The visuals and dialogues are brutally honest in reflecting the status of someone dealing with emotional issues, but as directed in the game, just follow the light and things will be getting better.

Sea of Solitude is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
