A Classic From The 90s
Oakley MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather

Since its establishment in 1975, Oakley has consistently produced a myriad of distinctive eyewear designs. Among its iconic creations is the MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather, introduced in 1998 and manufactured for a six-year period. This eyewear left an indelible mark on 90s pop culture, owing to its association with Michael Jordan, and achieved further recognition through its appearance on Brad Pitt’s character, Tyler Durden, in “Fight Club.” After a quarter of a century, Oakley recently reintroduced these sunglasses for a limited release, promptly selling out as anticipated.

The enduring appeal of the MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather can be attributed not only to its futuristic and timeless design but also to the intricate process and technology involved in crafting the frame. According to Oakley, “it required a six-ton generator with 425,000 watts of power to drive the five-axis machining, maintaining a precision of .0005 inches to fashion the extraterrestrial X-Metal frame.” The latest version incorporates a metal laser sintering process, utilizing high-powered lasers to melt the intricate X-Metal powder. The circular lenses now feature Prizm 24K lenses, an enhancement aimed at optimizing colours and contrast for superior visibility.

To enhance functionality, the earsocks and nose pads are constructed from Unobtainium, a material also used in other contemporary Oakley glasses, ensuring an enhanced grip and secure frame placement. The eyewear’s striking appearance is further accentuated by hand-stitched suede leather details.
