Through A Pink Filter
Infra Realism by Kate Ballis

Under the blue sky and surrounded by palm trees, amateur turned photographer Kate Ballis was capturing the spirit of Palm Springs, California through her lens. She creates a world through her lens that is familiar yet surreal. Citing Richard Mosse’s infrared documentary series as an inspiration, Infra Realism was shot with a specially converted camera through various infrared filters. The iconic Palm Springs locations such as Kaufmann Desert House, Parker Palm Springs, Ace Hotel & Swim Club are reimagined into a different world with trees in blue, skies in magenta and swimming pools in blood red.

The Australian photographer loves travelling around and has taken the same technique to the Chilean desert. A solo exhibition entitled Hypercolour Fantasy: Infra Realism will be running at Garis & Hahn in Los Angeles from 22 July until 25 August. A book for the series is also planned for October.
