The Positive Influence Of Personal Input
teamLab

‘Experiencing’ is more long-lasting and memorable than ‘seeing’. A person’s role changes from passive to active, allowing one to create and feel something. With the help of new technology, Japanese design studio teamLab has created a number of ‘Ultrasubjective Space’ experiences, inviting participants who are strangers to collaborate and create art in a shimmering and glamorous world full of fantasies. By co-creating, the boundaries between each individual, as well as the boundaries between self and art are either blurred or removed.

Using these concepts, teamLab has participated in the NGV Triennial of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Australia, a free exhibition organised every three years to feature the work of over 100 artists and designers from around the world. teamLab has constructed a flowing ocean, where a participant’s every single move creates vortexes with different directions and different levels of strength. This whirlpool, born by the force of an individual, continues to transform and interact with other whirlpools.

teamLab strongly believes, “If cities were to become more like digital artworks, the presence of other people could become a positive element.”
