For more than 80 years, Sennheiser has built its reputation around serious sound quality. Despite the brand’s parent company, Sonova, labelling Sennheiser’s consumer division as a “discontinued operation”, the new Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless will hit the market later this month.
Positioned as the flagship of the Momentum range, the new headphones focus not only on sound, but also on long-term comfort, intelligent noise cancellation and genuinely useful technology, attempting to blend audiophile performance with everyday practicality.
The Momentum 5 Wireless features a newly developed 42 mm dynamic driver inspired by Sennheiser’s high-end audiophile headphones. The tuning leans towards clarity and natural detail rather than exaggerated bass, allowing vocals, orchestral recordings and electronic music alike to sound spacious and controlled. Support for AAC, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless also means the headphones are capable of reference-grade wireless playback when paired with compatible devices. Adding to the immersion is Dolby Atmos spatial audio, which expands the soundstage into something far more cinematic and three-dimensional.
Sennheiser has also significantly upgraded active noise cancellation. The Momentum 5 Wireless uses an entirely new hybrid adaptive ANC system with eight digital microphones, delivering noticeably stronger mid-range noise reduction than the previous generation. Whether used on flights, trains or in busy cafés, the headphones isolate the listener remarkably well, while Transparency Mode allows surrounding sound back in naturally without breaking immersion.
Battery life remains one of the standout figures. With up to 57 hours of playback even with ANC enabled, the Momentum 5 Wireless comfortably outlasts most rivals. More importantly, Sennheiser has designed the battery to be user-replaceable, a surprisingly rare feature in premium wireless headphones today and one that greatly improves long-term ownership.
Elsewhere, Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, beamforming microphones for clearer calls, automatic wind-noise suppression, intuitive touch controls and a user-friendly app round out the experience. As a complete package, the Momentum 5 Wireless could help bring the Sennheiser name back into the spotlight.
