New Expression Of The Twin Tail
Deus Ex Machina x La Squadra x Zagato AGTZ Twin Tail

Originally conceived in 2024, the AGTZ Twin Tail reimagines the spirit of endurance racing through modern coachbuilding, bringing together Zagato and La Squadra. With Deus Ex Machina invited to create a special one-off version, the project gains a fresh perspective on an already distinctive concept.

The AGTZ Twin Tail draws inspiration from the legendary Alpine A220 and is built upon the platform of the Alpine A110, celebrating the enduring appeal of hand-built design. Limited to just nineteen examples worldwide, its defining feature is the removable rear bodywork, allowing the car to shift between an elegant longtail and a more compact, muscular shorttail. The detachable longtail can even be displayed as a sculptural object.

Deus Ex Machina’s involvement adds a distinctive creative layer to this unique commission. The livery, designed by its creative director Carby Tuckwell, introduces a bold monochrome palette that contrasts sharply with the car’s flowing form. Graphic elements, including a circled “X” motif along the sides and a handwritten “DEUS” script across the tail, give the car a visual identity that bridges automotive design with surf and motorcycle culture.

The collaboration continues inside, with subtle co-branded details and asymmetrical seat finishes that add playful contrast and echo the exterior treatment. Mechanically, the car remains unchanged, powered by a 300 hp 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that preserves the performance character of the original concept.

While this one-off model is not offered for sale, the collaboration extends beyond the car itself, as Deus Ex Machina has released a limited-edition T-shirt and two posters featuring Tuckwell’s illustrated interpretation of the Twin Tail.
